Why it is Important to Pay Attention to the State of your AED battery

Posted by admin in Technology on 10 7th, 2011 | no responses

If you’re in-charge of checking the condition of medical supplies and equipment, you may be wary regarding AEDs or perhaps have seen it in TV shows that have a medical theme. In addition, you may be aware of why AED batteries are essentially charged and in prime condition at all times. If not. Let’s check out what AEDs are and why they require to be resupplied with batteries every time.
AEDs or Automated External Defibrillators are used in many emergency cases when the heart has stopped beating. The device produces an electric shock within the chest’s wall into the heart. The device is integrated with a computer to easily assess and monitor the patient’s heart rhythm. The data will then be used by the AED operator to assess whether or not the patient needs to be shocked again with the device. Visual or audible tips and hints assist the user throughout the process.

AEDs are designed with a microprocessor inside it, which is used to interpret and evaluate the patient’s heart rhythm through attached electrodes on the chest. The computer will then interpret the heart rhythm and gives advice on whether or not the patient needs another shock. AEDs only recommend a shock if the patient is suffering from ventricular fibrillation or rapid ventricular tachycardia. The electric current that shocks the patient is delivered into the patient’s chest wall with the use of electrode pads attached on the chest.

AEDs are highly important as they improve the chances of survival. They can restore a heart rhythm into its normal state in case of sudden cardiac arrest cases. Furthermore, the device plays a vital role nowadays in emergency out-patient cases. As portable versions of the device have been manufactured to be fitted into ambulances and response teams, immediate defibrillation is given for those who need it. Some die of cardiac failure as they are on the way to the hospital or medical facility to get defibrillated, which at the present, can be avoided.

With this being said, AED batteries are essential to be replenished every time. This is to ascertain that the device can be used properly and instantly when needed. If the device has no batteries or less juice in it, the patient may die as the medical team cannot defibrillate the heart. As of now, diverse fields of work have been using AEDs alongside their line of work. These professions include firefighters, flight attendants, police officers, cruise ship personnel, residential homes, physicians and restaurant staff. All places catering to a diversity of individuals should be equipped with AEDs and an extra AED battery in order to provide immediate defibrillation if needed. Furthermore, they should know the do’s and don’ts of the device before operating it to avoid further complications. for more information visit High-Tech Battery Solutions.
